I am looking for information on George Ross. Originally from Old Deer Aberdeen he was a gamekeeper on the Aden estate. He migrated to Ireland about 1842/3 with Lady Mary Balfour as part of her entourage when she moved across to marry Lord Henry Herbert of Muckross Killarney. He lived there until his death.Family history has it that he was on Islay presumably as a gamekeeper. He is on the 1841 census in Aberdeen but I want to try and trace him on Islay as he had a son John Ross who I cannot determine was born in Scotland or Ireland. I believe that the Mitchell Library has Islay Estate papers but wondered if there was anything online to view. Many thanks.

I have been told that only deceased from ghe locality could be buried at this venue. That is all the info I have gleaned.

My 3x great grandfather, John McIntyre (1783-1835), was a gardener in Barony. His wife was Agnes Erskine (1785- 1854). There were several McIntyre families who were gardeners and whose sons were John William and Alexander. They seem to have all been related but it is difficult sorting out which family an individual belongs to and therefore which line to trace back. I'd love to hear from anyone else researching McIntyre gardeners in Glasgow.

My 3X great grandparents Alexander Murray and Janet Cameron with their daughters Mary and Catherine emigrated to Canada on the brig The Earl of Dalhousie in 1821. The vessel went down off the southeast tip of Anticosti Island in the Gulf of St Lawrence on Sept 6. All crew and passengers survived. Alexander was the son of stonemason John Murray. His youngest brother Daniel who died in 1893 at the age of 93 had a son John who was provost of Pollockshields in the late 1880s and then councillor of Glasgow from about 1890 until his death in about 1910. He was a drysalter and oil merchant in Glasgow. These two Murray families kept in touch at least until Daniels death in 1893.I would love to get in touch with the descendants of Councillor John Murray. According to his tombstone in the Glasgow Necropolis his descendants married into Grahams some of whom were senior military officers. I will be in Scotland in Sept 2017 and would love to meet any descendants.
